From Sunset to Finish Line: A Weekend With Our Fighters
Born from the MUDGIRL community, the Pink Army Foundation carries that spirit of solidarity far beyond the finish line. In Los Angeles, the second cohort of Fighters came together for a weekend of connection, personal growth, and bonds that will continue to grow long after returning home.

A community that goes far beyond the finish line
Since 2017, MUDGIRL has stood alongside women affected by breast cancer. This collective commitment led to the creation of the Pink Army Foundation in 2025, with a mission to support women throughout their journey through personalized care and a community where every woman can feel understood, supported, and surrounded by people who care.
Behind every Fighter is a story, challenges to overcome, and a journey of her own. No one should have to face that experience alone.
With this vision in mind, the Pink Army Thrive Initiative (PATI) was created. This 12-week program supports Fighters in their physical, nutritional, and emotional well-being, with an approach tailored to their individual needs.
The support doesn’t stop with the program. It comes to life through meaningful encounters, shared experiences, and those precious moments when we discover that other women understand what we are going through.
That is what the LA Empowering Challenge is all about: giving Fighters the opportunity to reconnect, build meaningful connections, and share an experience that reaches well past the physical challenge.
For the second year in a row, Los Angeles welcomed the Fighters for this special reunion. Over three days, they got to know one another, cheered each other on, laughed, shared, and, above all, rediscovered the strength that can be found in one another.

A sunset, the promise of a new story
On Friday, September 25, the Fighters gathered in Redondo Beach, facing the vastness of the Pacific Ocean.
Aboard El Rey, the weekend began gently, carried by the rhythm of the waves and the last rays of sunlight.
Conversations began to flow, and laughter filled the air. Behind every encounter was a story, a lived experience, and a journey of its own.
As the sky turned orange above the ocean, time seemed to slow down. Everyday life could wait. All that mattered was enjoying the present moment, drifting with the waves and the peacefulness around them.
There was something symbolic about that sunset: it reflected the journey each woman had already travelled, as well as all the beautiful pages she still had left to write.
Together, they were beginning a new chapter.

Hand in hand, obstacle after obstacle
Early Saturday morning, it was time to head to MUDGIRL Los Angeles!
The day began with an emotional send-off led by Fitz, our beloved MC and a two-time breast cancer survivor. With her infectious energy and warmth, she made sure our Fighters were celebrated and given a send-off worthy of their journeys.
Then came the challenge: five kilometers of running, obstacles to overcome, and countless opportunities to help one another along the way.

They cheered each other on, reached out a helping hand, laughed through the mud, and celebrated every milestone. Every obstacle became an opportunity to support one another. Every step mattered, and every victory took on a whole new meaning when shared.
When they crossed the finish line, united and beaming with pride, their sense of accomplishment was about so much more than physical achievement.
It was the pride of showing up, of daring to take on the challenge, and of moving forward and sharing this moment together. It was pure joy, surrounded by women who understood certain things without needing them to be explained.
For a few precious hours, the focus shifted away from what they had been through and towards everything they could still experience, discover, and share together.
Making space to reconnect
Breast cancer changes far more than everyday life. It can transform the way a woman sees herself, her body, her future, and the world around her. The journey brings questions and emotions that are not always easy to navigate alone.
Being supported also means having the space to acknowledge all of this. It means taking the time to understand what we feel, rebuilding at our own pace, and gradually finding our own sense of direction again.

The Fighters gathered on the beach for a group discussion by the ocean. Facing the Pacific, in a setting that invited calm and reflection, each woman had the opportunity to pause, listen, share, and put words to her experience.
In this space of openness and connection, each woman could find echoes of her own story in the experiences of others and feel welcomed without judgment. It was a moment to let go of some of the pressure and move forward with a little more lightness.
Support doesn’t always mean having the answers. Sometimes, it simply means being there: listening without judgment, understanding without needing every detail explained, and reminding one another, through our presence, that no one has to face everything alone.
The weekend comes to an end. The connections remain.
The final evening arrived, filled with conversations, laughter, and those simple moments we sometimes wish could last just a little longer.
Over these three days, the Fighters had the chance to reconnect, get to know one another on a deeper level, and create memories that would stay with them long after returning home.
Three days cannot erase the challenges of a journey shaped by breast cancer, and that was never the goal.
The real purpose was something else: to create a space where confidence, friendship, inner strength, and a sense of belonging could grow.
What began as 12 weeks of personalized support had become a deeply human experience. It brought together women connected by experiences that sometimes overlapped, enriched by their differences, and united by a shared belief: no one should have to walk this journey alone.
As they left Los Angeles, the Fighters carried home much more than memories. They left with new connections, friendships just beginning to blossom, and a community they could continue to lean on.
The LA Empowering Challenge was never just about crossing a finish line. It was also about discovering that the journey feels different when you no longer have to walk it alone.
This is only the beginning.
Together, we move forward. Together, we rise.
