The Week Before: How to Show Up Ready

You have signed up, race day is on the calendar, and now the week is finally here.

The good news is that MUDGIRL does not require any special preparation. That said, if you want to feel your best when you step up to the starting line, there are a few simple things you can do in the final week that make a real difference.

None of this is about cramming in last-minute training. The week before is about showing up rested, loose, and ready to enjoy the day.

Keep Moving, Gently

This is not the week for pushing hard. Any fitness you were going to build is already built. Now the goal is to stay loose and keep your body feeling good.

A few easy ways to do that:

  • Take some walks. A daily walk keeps you moving without wearing you out.

  • Do some light stretching, especially your legs, hips, and shoulders.

  • If you like, do a little gentle mobility work to keep everything limber.

The key word all week is gentle. Save your energy for race day.

Prioritize Rest

Rest is where your body actually gets ready. Aim for good sleep all week, not just the night before.

One solid night of sleep cannot make up for a week of short ones, and pre-race nerves can make that last night restless anyway.

If you can, prioritize winding down in the evenings and getting to bed at a reasonable hour in the days leading up. Your body will thank you on the course.

Hydrate Early and Often

Hydration is not something you can fix the morning of. Start drinking water consistently a few days before, so you arrive well hydrated rather than trying to catch up.

Keep a water bottle with you as you go about your week, and sip steadily rather than chugging it all at once.

On race day itself, there will be at least two water stations on the course, so you can stay hydrated along the way.

The Day Before

The day before race day, keep things low-key:

  • Lay out your clothes and pack your bag so nothing is rushed in the morning.

  • Eat normal, familiar meals. This is not the day to try a brand new food or anything unusual.

  • Do something relaxing and get to bed at a reasonable time.

  • Double-check the logistics: your start time, the drive, and that your waiver is marked as "signed" on your order confirmation.

A calm evening before sets you up for a smooth morning.

The Final Piece

The most important preparation is not physical at all. It is showing up with the mindset that you are there to enjoy the experience, not to prove anything.

You have done what you need to do. Rest, hydrate, keep loose, and let yourself look forward to it. Because the truth is, you are ready.

The only thing left to do is go for it.
